Co-Founder and CTO Alex Payne stays calm and soft-spoken during the interview, but the fun and passion of building BankSimple still oozes out of his every pore.
BankSimple started in “vague,” almost stealth mode, announcing through the tech press their great company was coming, but the announcement lacked detail. Head fake. They wanted the customers to tell them what they wanted in a bank and indeed, customer input formed the feature set of their first products (is someone reading Four Steps to the Epiphany?). Banking has not enjoyed a stellar reputation in customer service in decades and this company intends to turn that perception upside down.
Alex glows when he talks about a company built to be sustainable on all fronts: for the customer, the employees, the banking industry, even competitors. BankSimple wants their philosophy to be copied by all entrepreneurs; it’s their contribution to the world. I don’t know about you, but I see a step into 21st century banking in my future…
From their web site: BankSimple will be a worry-free alternative to traditional personal banking. No surprise fees plus the customer service you deserve. And that’s just the beginning.
Banking shouldn’t be hard. BankSimple. Launching in 2011.
